How to Turn a Spam Call into a Million-Dollar Conversation 🤳🏼

Homeowner standing outside her modest light gray house with a cell phone, imagining a funny response to a spam caller asking to buy her home.
Am I the only one who likes to have a little fun with spam callers? You know the ones I'm talking about. They call out of nowhere and ask if you've ever thought about selling your house. My first thought is always, "Well, you called me." So instead of immediately hanging up, I sometimes decide to see where the conversation goes.

When they ask if I'd be willing to sell, I enthusiastically tell them, "Absolutely!" Then I give them a price that would make even the fanciest mansion blush. Let's say $2 million. There's usually a long pause while they try to figure out whether I'm serious or if they accidentally called the wrong person.

Eventually they tell me they were hoping for something a little more reasonable. That's when I explain that every minute they spend trying to negotiate, the price increases by another $5,000. "Oh, it's been another minute. We're at $2,005,000 now." If they keep talking, I keep adding to the total. I figure if they're going to interrupt my day, I might as well make it entertaining.

I don't do this to be mean. I know many of the people making these calls are simply doing their jobs and reading from a script. But there's something oddly satisfying about turning the tables for a change. Instead of me feeling annoyed that my phone rang yet again, I'm the one enjoying the conversation while they try to decide whether I'm joking.

Realistically, I know they're never going to agree to my ever-increasing asking price. But I also know they probably won't be calling me back anytime soon. And on the off chance someone actually says, "Deal," well... I guess I'd have a pretty big decision to make.

So now I'm curious. Do you simply hang up the moment you realize it's a spam caller, or do you ever have a little harmless fun with them? I'd love to hear your best spam caller story in the comments!
