Who Moved My Schedule? 📆

Sitting at a kitchen table wearing a grey cardigan, holding a coffee mug to her head in exasperation while pointing at a crossed-out wall calendar, with a spilled bag of dog treats, a to-do list, and a ringing phone on the table.
Are you a creature of habit? I’m talking about the kind of person who has a routine. A real routine. A carefully constructed little schedule that tells you what happens next and, more importantly, when it happens. Coffee at this time. Shower at that time. Work starts at this time. Lunch at this time. Dinner at this time. Bed at this time. Everything has its place. Everything makes sense. Everything is under control.

And then… life laughs.

Because apparently, the universe enjoys taking perfectly reasonable routines and throwing them directly into a wood chipper.

Maybe you planned to run a few errands in the morning, but suddenly the store is packed, the drive-thru line is approximately 47 miles long, and somebody has decided that today is the perfect day to reorganize the entire checkout system. Maybe you planned to get something done at home, but your dog needs something, the phone rings, you forgot you needed an ingredient, and suddenly it’s 2:30 in the afternoon and you’re standing in the kitchen wondering what the hell happened to your morning.

Or maybe it’s something really simple.

You wake up late.

And now the whole day feels… wrong.

Not ruined. Not catastrophic. Just… wrong.

I will fully admit that I am a person who likes knowing what is supposed to happen next. I like my little routines. They make life easier because I don't have to make 900 tiny decisions before breakfast.

But when that routine gets disrupted?

Well.

Let's just say my brain doesn't always respond with the calm, collected grace of a yoga instructor.

Sometimes it responds with:

“WELL, I GUESS EVERYTHING IS RUINED NOW.” 😂

Which, when you stop and think about it, is ridiculous.

If I normally get something done at 8:00 and today I don't get to it until 10:00, the world has not stopped spinning. If I have to change my plans, I haven't failed at life. If my perfectly organized little schedule gets tossed out the window, I can simply… make a new plan.

In theory.

In reality?

My brain would like to file a formal complaint.

And I know I'm not the only one.

Some people seem to thrive on spontaneity. Tell them the plans changed and they're like, “Oh, fun!”

FUN?!

You mean we don't know what's happening anymore and we're just going to WING IT?!

Meanwhile, the rest of us are standing in the corner clutching our coffee and whispering, “But… but… the PLAN.”

So now I want to know about you.

Are you a creature of habit? Do you have a daily routine that you follow pretty religiously? Maybe it's your morning coffee, your workout, your work schedule, your evening routine—or even just the order in which you do things.

And what happens when something comes along and completely messes it up?

Do you roll with it? Do you shrug and say, “Well, things happen”? Or do you spend the next three hours internally screaming because THE ROUTINE HAS BEEN VIOLATED?

No judgment here.

Okay… maybe a little judgment.

But mostly, I'm curious.

Because sometimes I think our routines aren't really about being rigid. They're about giving our brains a little structure in a world that can be chaotic enough without somebody moving our cheese.

And sometimes, maybe the real trick is learning that when the routine falls apart, the day doesn't have to fall apart with it.

Even if our first instinct is to dramatically stare into the distance and declare the entire day a disaster.

Which, obviously, I would never do.

Ahem.

So tell me: Are you a creature of habit, and how well do you handle it when life decides to mess with your routine?

I want to hear from my fellow routine-loving weirdos.
