👉🏻 Can Someone Hide the Word "Right"?

Have you ever been talking to someone and suddenly realized they have a favorite word? Not just a word they use occasionally, but one they seem physically incapable of leaving out of a conversation.

For me, it's the word "right."

Now, before anyone gets defensive, I'm not talking about using the word when it actually belongs in a sentence. I'm talking about the people who end nearly every sentence with it.

"I went to the grocery store today...right."

"I'll probably mow the lawn tomorrow...right."

"It's supposed to rain this weekend...right."

"I found a great restaurant...right."

At first, you don't even notice it. Your brain is happily focused on the conversation. Then one day, for reasons unknown, your brain decides to point it out. It's almost like a switch flips.

"Hey...did you notice they end every sentence with 'right'?"

Well, thanks, brain.

Now I can't hear anything else.

Once you've noticed it, there's no going back. Every "right" jumps out at you like it's wearing a flashing neon sign. You try your best to ignore it because, after all, you're interested in what the person is saying. But your brain has other plans.

Instead of listening to the story, it starts keeping score.

"That's five."

"Six."

"Seven...wow, they're on a roll today."

Before long, you're less interested in the conversation and more curious to see if they'll make it through an entire paragraph without saying it.

Spoiler alert...they won't.

I've started wondering if this is something people even realize they're doing. Is there a tiny voice in their head announcing, "Sentence complete! Time to insert the word 'right.'" Maybe it's like breathing. Maybe they couldn't stop if they tried.

Whatever the reason, it's oddly fascinating.

Of course, we all have little verbal habits. Some people say "um" every few words. Others throw in "like" whenever they need a second to think. Then there are the people who begin every sentence with "so..." or finish everything with "you know?"

None of us are completely innocent.

I'm sure I have one too.

Actually...don't tell me if I do. I'm perfectly happy living in denial.

What really amazes me is the consistency. Imagine being so committed to one word that it faithfully reports for duty at the end of almost every sentence. That's dedication. It's practically a personality trait at that point.

So now I'm curious.

What's the one word or phrase someone says that immediately grabs your attention? Not because it's wrong, but because once you notice it, you simply can't stop hearing it.

I have a feeling "right" is only the beginning. Every family, office, friend group, and neighborhood probably has someone who unknowingly turns one little word into their personal catchphrase.

And if you're reading this thinking, "I don't do that...right?"

Well...you might want to ask someone you know.

Just don't ask me.
