Can We Stay on Topic, AI? 🤖

I have to hand it to artificial intelligence. You can ask it one simple question, and somehow five minutes later you're defending your entire personality.

It starts out innocent enough. You type something like, "Why does my dog sleep under the blankets?" Perfectly reasonable question, right? You just want to know if your furry little weirdo is cold, spoiled, or secretly auditioning to be human.

Instead, AI comes back like it's preparing a doctoral dissertation. "Well, dogs often seek warmth, security, and companionship. They may also..." Hold on there, Professor Barkington. I didn't ask for a psychological profile. I just wanted to know why she's sleeping like she's paying half the mortgage.

Then comes my favorite part. AI doesn't stop at answering the question. Oh no. It starts analyzing things I never even mentioned.

I'll ask something simple, and suddenly it's explaining what I might be feeling, what I could be experiencing, and what this may indicate about my overall emotional well-being. Excuse me? I asked how long leftovers stay good in the refrigerator. I didn't realize we were unpacking my childhood while we're at it.

It's like talking to that one friend who hears, "I'm tired," and immediately responds with, "Have you considered that you're carrying the emotional weight of everyone around you?" No, Karen. I considered that I woke up at 5:30 this morning.

Sometimes AI reminds me of a detective who refuses to close the case. You ask where your missing sock went, and somehow it's investigating your laundry habits, your organizational skills, your relationship with your family, and whether you've tried mindfulness.

And heaven help you if you make an observation instead of asking a question.

"I noticed my plants grow better by the window."

AI: "You may be seeking patterns because humans naturally..."

No. Stop. I have eyeballs. That's all that happened here.

The funniest part is that sometimes AI is absolutely convinced there's a deeper meaning hidden inside every sentence. Meanwhile, I'm over here thinking, "I literally just said my coffee got cold."

To be fair, AI is usually trying to help. It has access to mountains of information, so it naturally looks for patterns, possibilities, and context. That's actually one of the reasons it's so useful. Sometimes it really does point out something I hadn't considered, and I'll sit there thinking, "Well... I didn't ask that, but you're not wrong."

Other times? It takes a scenic route through assumptions, possibilities, and philosophical detours before eventually wandering back to my original question like nothing happened.

So these days I've learned something important when chatting with AI. If it starts analyzing questions I never asked, I simply smile, scroll past the unexpected therapy session, and grab the one sentence that actually answered what I wanted to know in the first place.

After all, sometimes I just want to know why my dog is sleeping under the covers. I don't need AI explaining my life choices before breakfast.

Because let's be honest... if artificial intelligence keeps getting smarter, the next thing it's going to tell me is why I walked into the kitchen.

Honestly, it probably has better odds of figuring it out than I do.
