Are You a Good Reader… or Just Out Here Guessing? π
Are you actually good at reading and following directions… or are you one of those people who scans three words, decides “yeah I get the vibe,” and then proceeds to absolutely freestyle the rest?
Because there are two types of people in this world.
There’s the “read every step twice, highlight, maybe even whisper it out loud for clarity” crowd. These people don’t miss things. They notice details. They probably assemble furniture without emotional damage. We respect them.
And then there’s… the rest of us.
The ones who open instructions, glance at step one, skip to step four, and somehow end up confused, slightly offended, and holding a part that doesn’t seem to belong anywhere. We don’t know how we got here, but we’re here. And now it’s personal.
I would love to say I’m a “good reader.” I would love that for me. But if I’m being honest, I’m more of a “skim and commit” kind of person. I read just enough to feel confident, and then I jump in like I’ve been formally trained. Spoiler: I have not.
And the wild part? When it goes wrong, my first thought is not, “maybe I missed a step.” Oh no. It’s, “these directions are unclear.” Immediately blaming the instructions like they personally wronged me.
Let’s not even talk about recipes. Because somehow I can read “add one teaspoon” and interpret it as “that feels optional.” And then I’m surprised when things don’t turn out the way they should. Shocking, really.
But here’s the thing—being a “good reader” isn’t just about reading words. It’s about slowing down enough to actually take them in. And if you’re anything like me, slowing down is not always the default setting.
So now I’m curious…
Are you the type who follows directions step-by-step like a responsible adult? Or are you out here living life on vibes, hoping it all comes together in the end?
No judgment either way. Just know… if something ends up slightly off, we might already know why π
