🐾 Tiny Dog, Big Feelings: Life Lessons from Bear, Mocha, and Lola

Three chihuahuas relaxing on a couch—Mocha, a chocolate merle in the front; Bear, a fluffy black and tan in the back; and Lola, a white and gray speckled chihuahua with a pink collar. All three are cozy and full of personality.
Let me introduce you to my emotional support squad: Bear (the blind philosopher), Mocha (the belly-rub queen), and Lola (the morning hype squad with full-body wiggles). These three tiny dogs pack more personality—and wisdom—than most people I know.

They’ve been with me through the tough days, the "I’m not answering that phone" days, and the maybe I’ll try a wig today just to feel cute days. And let me tell you, they’ve taught me a thing or two (or seven) about life, loyalty, and the power of small paws with big hearts.

In this post, I’m sharing the little life lessons I’ve learned from each of them—because sometimes, the best advice doesn’t come from a therapist or a motivational quote… it comes from a tiny, furry face asking for a treat.

🐾 Meet Mocha, Bear, and Lola

Mocha may not be the loudest in the pack, but she knows exactly how to get what she wants—especially when it comes to belly rubs. With one soulful look and a perfectly executed flop onto her back, she reminds me that sometimes the quietest ones carry the strongest sense of self. Mocha teaches me that it’s okay to ask for what you need, to take up space without guilt, and to enjoy life’s little comforts without apology. She doesn’t compete or clamor—she just is, and in that quiet confidence, there’s a lesson I’m still learning: sometimes the softest voices hold the deepest strength.

Bear is my little shadow, always a step behind me—literally, since he’s blind—but never far from my side. There’s something deeply comforting about the way he quietly trusts the world around him, even when he can’t see it. He’s playful, gentle, and fiercely loyal, and he reminds me daily that it’s okay to lean on others when things feel uncertain. Bear teaches me that love doesn’t need eyes to see; it just needs presence. His quiet strength and willingness to follow with trust have shown me the beauty in slowing down, listening closely, and finding comfort in the simple fact that we’re not alone.

Lola bursts into the room like sunshine with a tail—full-body wiggles, bright eyes, and the kind of enthusiasm that could cheer up a rock. Every morning, she makes sure I start the day with love, throwing herself into the moment like it’s the best one she’s ever had (and honestly, maybe it is). Lola reminds me to embrace joy without hesitation, to lead with love, and to show up fully—even if your hair’s a mess and your tail’s a little crooked. She lives out loud, loves hard, and never misses a chance to make someone feel special. And really, who couldn’t use a little more Lola energy in their life?

These three tiny dogs are more than pets—they’re my constant companions, my comfort on the hard days, and my daily reminders that love shows up in quiet ways, wiggly greetings, and well-timed snuggles. I don’t know where I’d be without them, and honestly? I don’t want to.
