Your Spoon Identity Isn’t as Stable as You Think 🥄
Let’s talk about something very important that nobody seems to officially discuss: what kind of spoon are you when you go to sleep? Because I refuse to believe people just lay down and consistently stay one size of spoon all night. That feels… unrealistic. Suspicious, even.
Now in theory, everyone thinks they know. “Oh, I’m always the little spoon,” or “I prefer being the big spoon.” Okay, sure… for the first five minutes. But what happens at 2:17 a.m. when your arm falls asleep, your leg is trapped, and suddenly breathing feels like a group activity you didn’t sign up for? Exactly. The spoon identity crisis begins.
And don’t even get me started if pets are involved. Because now it’s not just big spoon and little spoon—it’s chaos spoon. Your dog is somehow perpendicular across both of you, your cat has claimed your pillow like a tiny, judgmental landlord, and you’re left clinging to the edge of the bed wondering how you ended up with approximately four inches of space. At that point, are you even a spoon… or just a garnish? Also, there’s the silent, unspoken shuffle that happens throughout the night. You start as the cozy little spoon, drift into independent “don’t touch me, it’s too warm” mode, accidentally become the big spoon for three minutes, and then fully commit to starfishing like you pay the mortgage alone. It’s a journey. A whole personality arc before sunrise.
And let’s be honest—sometimes spooning sounds cuter than it actually is. In theory: adorable, warm, romantic. In reality: someone’s elbow is in the wrong place, there’s unexpected breathing on your neck, and now you’re overheated and slightly annoyed but also… weirdly comforted? It’s confusing.
So now I have to know… do you actually have a set spoon identity, or are you out here shape-shifting all night like the rest of us? Are you loyal to your role, or do you evolve as the night goes on?
And most importantly… if pets are involved, do any of us really have a say in this at all?
